Namaste.
Recently I became an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church. Despite having spent many years wanting to become ordained as a mockery of my Christian environment and upbringing, the actual manifestation of this desire is now anything but a mockery. Nor is it a validation of spiritual authority. This ordainment, after all, can be achieved by nearly anyone within just a few minutes at certain web sites.
The significance for me was as a private ceremony celebrating the will towards collective betterment. With or without the title of Reverend, there is the inclination of sustainable psychospiritual farming practices which prepare our shared soil for growth. In becoming a minister, I only wish to maintain patterns for myself that allow me to be a friend to all sentient beings. Far from any labels, from dogmas, from even expectation, there is the very natural and pleasurable tendency of soulful realization. Upon this spirit I lay no claim, but I serve it, as do we all in our own ways.
While occasionally using established means for increasing awareness, it is yet the unnamed which is furthered. Our paths are not entirely summed up by hot topics of consensus reality or by esoteric classifications. Though not fighting complexity in the natural world, we thrive in simplicity. The classic spiritual texts have very much to offer us on a wide variety of issues we deal with, but there is a basic experience which can hardly even be mentioned, the very act of the foot meeting the path.
It is that moment to which I devote myself, as it manifests in all beings. I will not preach or attempt to force anything, but I will be a steward to that which is already occuring. I am not myself a cause of anything. We already seem to be in the process of unfolding into the widening expanses of bliss, so I have only opted to come along for the ride, to cultivate the awareness in myself that allows me to share this experience as we have it.
As a minister, I am only a friend. I can not pledge to be a cause of anything, but I pledge my sights to what can be observed in the calm balance of the subtle areas of knowing, a nature of change, of the universe finding existence through patterns of interaction, of a tendency to come together and move forward. I will share what I can and remain open to what everyone has to share with me. Whatever the stories we identify as ourselves, and however an individual must approach it, we have this one thing in common: the evolution towards boundless realization.
You are that, and I am that. For that, I pledge my service eternally. Behind the mask of Rev. Sun Myung MoonPie, I laugh joyfully with you, knowing that we're already there. Behind your masks, I know you are laughing too. Peace be with you, friends.
Love,
Rev. MoonPie
